We set off 9am Sunday morning in the pouring rain in convoy… first stop Bluebell Hill Petrol station!! When needs must! And we were off... 8 cars, 8 competing cheerleaders, and tons of brilliant supporters! Off we went at a steady 60mph…Bob was itching to put his foot down while Stace was constantly staring out the back window ensuring everyone was still in formation!! FOLLOW THAT COACH THERE ARE CHEERLEADERS ON IT. Good idea until it went down a “coaches and bus only lane”!!
Well, we did pretty well but managed to lose the majority of people after Bob, then followed by Deb went through a red light (apparently hehe). We all got parked, and ripped off by the extortionate parking fees, and made our way into the Brighton Centre. MASSIVE place! Dilema number one… Deb has no dance kit…UH OH Saviours Helen and Ronan to the rescue!!! PHEEEEEEEEEEW!!
Went into the arena to find some seats, was wowed over by the amount of people there, but noone checking tickets?! Odd you would think. Got settled and went to get changed. Hair spray filled the toilets Bring It On style while we competed for a space in front of a mirror. All dolled up and ready to go we went back into the arena to watch some of the partner stunt routines.
Practice time? When is our practice time? Do we have a practice time? Apparently not… ok we’ll just do it at the bottom of the stairs then! Changed some dismounts, little tweaks here and there, the usual for MCDA/Rockets twenty minutes before going on!! All sorted…very VERY nervous, felt sick, needed a wee, (why does that happen? Was fine 5 mins ago now I need a wee, most inconvenient) had to keep bouncing up and down, don’t look at mum and dad… it will make you cry… keep bouncing…
NOW ANOUNCING… MCDA!!!!!
We ran on screaming, whooping, jumping and into position. CUE MR MUSIC MAN WESLEY! And we’re away, everything started fiiiine…. Rocket went up fiiine… prep… uh oh, oops, ouch, damn!! Shoulder stand, uh oh, oops, ouch ARRRRGGGHHH (actually said by me in the routine!!) well it came together in the end and we finished really well, whooped jumped, screamed, and ran off!!! Some of us might of cried… but we wont go into that ;) hehe (it’s a tradition alright??!)
Then we had a nice trip to Mac Donalds ;);) nudge, nudge…
Back to the Brighton centre all piped up ready for the dance routine, was ready and looking forward to this one, no scary stunts for me!! Armed and ready with pom poms, suited and booted, quite literally cat suits and jazz boots…
NOW ANOUNCING…MCDA!!!!!!
No whooping and cheering this time… must be serious, must not smile…
CUE MUSIC MAN WESLEY!
GUESS WHO’S BACK!!! Hell yeah we were back, we rocked the floor, flat out, absolutely amazing, totally awesome!!! Everyone did really well!
I somehow became attached to my cat suit by my heir under my pony tail, luckily that was right at the end of the dance so I only had to run off looking at the sky!!
Skipping to the results… well what a squish, our first one was cheer;
“And in fifth place….”
“Don’t worry girls it doesn’t matter” – me
“I bet we were sixth, I bet were were sixth by like one point or something stupid” – Laura
“and the champions of Senior Novice…. MCDA”
WHAT????? NO WAY???? OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally speechless, all I could do was cry, we were so overwhelmed. It seriously took us about 15 minutes to calm back down and work out where they had got to in the announcements, we were so unbelievably shocked, and so excited. We had never won cheer before, such an achievement for us!
Awaiting the dance results now, really thought we had gone all out in this one,
“We thought we were good in this one and not in the other one, maybe its been switched and we’re not gonna be placed” – Laura
“We didn’t pray for this one, quick lets do it now” – Laura
3rd place… 2nd place and runners up of Senior small group… And the CHAMPIONS of Senior small group dance…MCDA
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS TWO TROPHIES, TWO 1ST PLACE TROPHIES, TWO GOLDS, CHAMPIONS TWICE OVER!!!!! AMAZING!
Couldn’t believe it!! biggest smiles and tears on all our faces.
WE ARE BACK!!!!
Needless to say everyone, including our spectators were over the moon, first competition in 2/3 years and we’re straight in at first place.
AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT, AMAZING EXPERIENCE, AMAZING DAY! I want to go and do it all again now!! WELL DONE EVERYONE AND THANK YOU TO ALL THE SUPPORTERS!!!
